[44] paper trails are getting longer, can you meet me in the middle

[Filtered from drones, etc.]

I'm in the process of constructing the perfect primer for those unfortunate enough to join us in this wretched place. Allowing the ignorant to remain such does me no good, nor any of the rest of you. While my memory is as clear and flawless as one might expect from someone of my intelligence, I have not been here forever and thus am sadly unable to make the primer fully comprehensive on my own.

So! I need information about things that happened in this place prior to nine months ago. Any lesser-known but important information about the Westport incident is also welcome; I know most of it but I was droned for the duration, so details may have slipped through the cracks.

[ooc: I won't be up much longer tonight, but I thought I'd throw this up anyway. I'll get to the comments as soon as I can tomorrow. ♥]

"15 feet! Holy crap!

So what's your world like?"

[identity profile] buildstherobots.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Very much unlike this one. We have something called fonons in our bodies that let us cast spells and such; my specific field is technically fontech, which I suppose you might define as magically-powered machinery. We had two nations and two autonomous states, one of which was the religious center for the other three. I won't get into the politics; it's tedious and would make no difference to you anyway.

[identity profile] pants-yourmove.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
[[He kind of followed along.]]

"So like magic and machines together? Like instead of electricity?"

[identity profile] buildstherobots.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, exactly. Instead of light bulbs, we had fonstones, which are crystallized clusters of fonons that, among other things, can be heated to produce light. The technology here is very different, though I naturally picked it up soon after my arrival.

"This town is a bit outdated but is closer to what I am used to.

Can I see your robot?"

[identity profile] buildstherobots.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, can you hear the grin?]

I'm at 1767 Beaver Street. It's in the driveway.

Mind if we move this to actions?

[identity profile] pants-yourmove.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Really? I'll be there soon!"

[[Hangs up. Aaron was kind of excited and on his way to see the robot.]]

Not at all. :D

[identity profile] buildstherobots.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Dist meets him outside, grinning. The Kaiser (http://i41.tinypic.com/2ch1i75.png) is shut down next to a very mangled car that looks as though it's been stripped for parts and shot at several times.]

Isn't he wonderful?

[identity profile] pants-yourmove.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
[[Stops on the sidewalk and just stares. So much about this scene he wanted to comment on. Like, "What did you do to that car?" and "I thought you'd be taller." but instead he went with the big one.]]

"That... is... amazing!"

[identity profile] buildstherobots.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, he will never get tired of the sound of people admiring his work.]

It is amazing! Far beyond the accomplishments of those I was forced to call my colleagues back home.

[identity profile] pants-yourmove.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
"We don't have anything like that back home... well we do but only in movies."

[[He walked up to it and began to walk around it slowly, still wide eyed and staring.]]

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
Truth be told, it's really more of a case log I've been putting together since I first got here. I arrived around the time that the post office was having that horrendous exchange of the box tops, and have been acquiring further details about this town through interviews, small investigations, etcetera.

[identity profile] buildstherobots.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'd be interested in seeing it, then; I admit this is the first time I've specifically asked people what they remember.

[identity profile] buildstherobots.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Well, technically, there's nothing like it on Auldrant either.

[GRIN GRIN. He waits until the boy is in a position to not be knocked over before doing... something or other to open up the main body.]

Unfortunately, the chair that fits in has yet to be returned to me, so I'm forced to stand, which can become tedious if things become too heated.

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
An exchange of notes would serve to be mutually beneficial. I can give you what knowledge I have, so long as I have your word that I will receive a final copy of the primer once you've completed it.

[identity profile] buildstherobots.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
I'll be handing out copies to anyone who asks for one, naturally. It wouldn't be very useful otherwise.

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
Excellent. And who, might I ask, am I speaking to?

[identity profile] buildstherobots.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
I'm Dist. And yourself?

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
Edward Nigma, good sir.

Bear in mind, once again, that a lot of my notes may prove redundant, since they do not stretch back past Westport. And I'll revise a good deal of them, as some of my notes focus more on my own circumstances than those of others. Nonetheless, when I've got my case log duplicated, I'll be sure to hand it off to you.

[identity profile] buildstherobots.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
More information is always better than less. I'll be filtering it all down to make it simpler; I probably won't use a lot of information I'm given in the letter itself, but I'm filing all of it away. It will prove useful eventually.

I'm at 1767 Beaver Street, by the way.

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
Splendid. Expect me there at some point soon.

[the Case Log]

[And soon enough you'll find a manila envelope in your mailbox, Dist, along with a page of hastily scribbled-out notes.]

Incidents of Note

The Westport Incident – A neighboring town, ultimately destroyed. Many of the people who moved into Westport met an untimely demise, suffering from poisoned gas or severe chemical burns. Relief and aid were also noticeably spoiled by the Milkman, who distributed many portions of poisoned food. (Source: BLU Scout 8/13)

The Communist Slaughter – A strange incident in the past, in which the town succumbed suddenly to a communist influence, leading to a mass slaughter in the streets. (Source: Dr. Harleen Quinzel, 8/13)

The Box Top Incident – In mid-August, a number of cereal boxes were distributed among the citizens of Mayfield via the grocery stores and via drone family members. By collecting box tops, the customers were guaranteed a number of personal belongings from their home worlds. After collecting a certain number of box tops, the customers were to exchange them with the mailman at the Post Office, seemingly constructed on the spot. This ultimately proved to be a ruse, as those who collected the box tops had to pay an unexpected price. Many had to sacrifice body parts and memories in order to regain their past possessions. (Source: BLU Scout, 8/13)

Summer Lovin’ Incident – Towards the end of summer, a good deal of us were trapped within gaudy, rank love hotels. The doors were locked, we were dressed in peculiar outfits, and expected to… well, I’d rather not say. Harley and I wound up spending the evening drinking from the minibar.

Party at the Smith House – The Smiths held a housewarming party in which several guests suffered severe injuries, even death. I investigated the Smith home with Ms. Skye and her associate, Mr. Gavin, but our search was fruitless. (September)

Smith vs. Smirnoff – During my absence from Mayfield, a Russian named Smirnoff claimed that Lucy Smith was the grandmaster of Mayfield. Suspiciously, a state of martial law was declared shortly after in order to find and bring Smirnoff to justice. Many were injured and suffered from death, including Ms. Skye. (Source: Ema Skye)

An Unexpected Return – I first arrived in Mayfield around the middle of August, though I made my way home in October via some unknown means. …unfortunately, I awoke once more in a new home about a month later. Strangely enough, I only remembered Mayfield upon returning to it.

Major Players

Lucy Smith: Seemingly an ordinary little girl, but far from it. Potential ringleader behind Mayfield. Further research is needed.

The Mayor: Mysterious authority over the town. Further research is needed.

The Milkman: Has a habit of serving milk and other goods laced with poison.

Officer Grady: The law enforcement of Mayfield. Capable of teleportation, item repossession, droning. Seemingly resistant to physical attacks. Further research needed.

The Mailman: Arrived in Mayfield shortly after the construction of the Post Office around the Box Top Incident.

The Drones: Citizens of Mayfield who have not been abducted. Seemingly brainwashed into believing that the everyday activities of this corrupted utopia are normal.

[Additionally, you'll find a note in there that reads as follows---

I look forward to seeing the completed primer. Many thanks, E. Nigma.]

[identity profile] ergaleomancer.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just a small gathering of people we've invited because they have details about what's happened. We're going to be sharing them with each other. Bring what you have and you're likely to get more.

Personally, I'm inviting you, Cynric.... [She trails off, trying to mentally consolidate her guest list.]

[identity profile] buildstherobots.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I think at this point I have enough, frankly, but I'll come by anyway. I very much doubt that other peoples' lists will be as comprehensive as mine.

[identity profile] ergaleomancer.livejournal.com 2010-12-08 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hey, if it means looking off his list, she'll play to his ego.] That's very kind of you, thank you. I hope we can be of some use to you in return.
